Headache in the morning. Had to stay home from work and sleep it off. So then once the headache gets under control, the rest of the day is spent nursing the after affects of all the meds I took to help the original headache. Then I finally get to the end of the day. Just about ready to go to bed. Thought I would make me a quick snack using a new fruit cutter we bought the other day. Started shaving down the apples in to wonderful thin slices (that would subsequently get covered with a warm milk/peanut butter topping. About the sixth swipe on the slicer, and I took the end of my pinky finger off. Not the whole end mind you, just a horse shoe shaped chunk of the fingernail and the meat underneath it. Bled like a stuck pig but seems to finally have started to coagulate. I’ll post some pics tomorrow of the carnage. :)

I have two small fiddler crabs in my aquarium. The male likes to motion to his reflection, probably as a sort of territorial display. Here’s a clip I captured of him today. To me, it looks like he’s directing fish traffic. :)

As Emily was cleaning the fish tank tonight she noticed an odd looking patch on one of the rocks. A closer look revealed a few hundred eggs arranged nicely along the hollow of the rock!! Looks like our Green Terrors haven’t been fighting. They’ve been courting! According to info found on the ‘net, the eggs should hatch in about 3-4 days. The Terrors are supposed to be excellent parents and it should only take about two weeks for the babies to reach 3/4 of an inch. At that time I’m gonna move as many as I can to my bigger tank for them to spread out and fatten up. Then we’ll probably take them to the local pet store for trade in credit. Here are a couple pics Emily took clearly showing the eggs being guarded by the male.

Emily and I had been wanting a fish tank in our living room for awhile and finally set one up a week ago. It’s a 36 gallon bow front with white sand and two green terror cichlids. Emily named them Boris and Karloff. We just bought the last decoration for the tank today and besides getting some black backing, we are considering the tank finished. The cichlids can get as big as 12″ each at which point, we’ll just have to get a bigger tank. :) I’ve uploaded some pictures of them to the gallery and will have some pics of the tank in there soon.

Got to work at 2:45am this morning. Adam and I have all the data processed and the client is here verifying the letters. It’s now 4am and we should get to start printing any minute. This may be the quickest all nighter to date.

Update:
I ended up working until 10pm that night. We actually got the job done faster then we have in the past and with no real problems. I still feel the remains of that day in my feet and back since we were mostly up and walking around all day long, but it always feels good when the job is over.

So, I’ve been wanting a tattoo for a long time. I could never decide on what I wanted to get though. I want it to have some sort of meaning since it will be on me until the day I die, but I always seem to talk myself out of it. Well, I think I’ve finally decided on a design and hopefully will have it done by the end of the month. Here’s the layout and I’ll be sure to post pics when I actually get it done.

My wife gave me an early birthday present tonight.

AND IT’S AUTOGRAPHED BY PINHEAD HIMSELF, DOUG BRADLEY!!

My beta, Blue Ray, lives in a small tank on my desk at work. He’s the only fish in the tank but doesn’t really seem to care. About a week ago, I noticed bubbles in the tank that were all bunched up in one area. I figured it was just stray bubbles from the filter collecting on the side of the tank. Then I saw Blue swim under the bubbles and nudge them with his nose. So I watched him a little longer and found out that HE has actually been making bubble nests. I had to look up information about betas to see if this behavior was odd. Turns out, the male betas build the nest, collect the eggs from the females after mating and insert them into the nest. They then guard the nest until the babies hatch. So, I snapped a video of him tending his bubbles. Soon, I’ll be getting him a mate and see just how far this can go.

I’ve done a lot of weird stuff when it comes to animals, I guess. I’ve hand fed a praying mantis. Played hide and seek with a hairless rat. Even gotten “attacked” by a jumping spider that I was filming a little too closely. But now, I have something to add to my list that I never imagined. I’ve been hand watering the roaches that I raise as food for my lizards. Yup. You read that correctly. I actually get water in a little dropper and give it to them one by one. I’m intrigued at the fact that they seem to remember what I’m doing and will actually grab the dropper to steady it so that they can drink more easily. Now don’t get me wrong. I won’t be snuggling up on the coach with them to watch some TV. But I find it fascinating that a creature so quickly despised by most people can exhibit behavior that is so opposite of what you would expect. They truly are incredible little machines once you pay attention to them.

Just got home from seeing Tron Legacy with the wife. The short review would be that it was a good movie but a bad sequel. Don’t get me wrong, the graphics were great and the action was good. But, being a big fan of the original, I felt kind of slighted by the story. Especially after having to wait 20+ years for it. My other gripe would be paying $12.50 to see a 3D movie and having the first message on the screen be that a lot of scenes in the movie are 2D and were shot that way on purpose. Whatever. I reiterate, good movie. Bad sequel.
