My wife and I love animals. And our love shows more and more as we keep bringing new animals into our extended family. The latest adoptees are a pair of brother rats named Alphi and Ralphi. They are already twice the size they were when we brought them home and are finally big enough to move into their nice multilevel cage. But not to leave any of the others out, here’s a quick rundown (in no particular order) of what we “currently” have.
2 mini schnauser/jack russel terrier mix male dogs (Squirt and Baxter)
2 jumbo rats (Alphi and Ralphi)
1 veiled chameleon (Ryland)
1 schneiders skink (Konami)
1 albino corn snake (Albi)
1 dumpy tree frog (Avec)
5 firebelly toads
1 pickerel frog
1 american bull frog
1 grays salamander
2 fish tanks with assorted guppies/snails/shrimp
and a yellow canary named Punky.
It’s really not as bad as it looks. We love each of our pets for different reasons.

Caring for animals can really enrich your life. They give back so much love and loyalty, (yes, I would guess reptiles do too, in their own special way). I became a rescue for chickens, because they are the most abused animal in the world. I currently have 30; 17 of them are roosters. Yes, it requires more space and work giving each roo their own territory, but it is well worth it. Each one is happy, healthy and full of spirit. Each has a name and knows their name. I also have 4 Cocketeils, 2 Lovebirds, 2 Parakeets, and 2 Zebra Finches. Most of the birds have been given to me, so you might call them rescues, as well. I also adopted 3 shelter cats. We took on a homeless kitten, and 2 small homeless dogs. We have always had an outside dog, as well. I believe it is human responsibility to provide caring dominion or guardianship of the animal kingdom. If we have pets because we own them, use them, or enjoy a sense of control over them, we have them for the wrong reasons, and their care is only a burden. Anyway, I also am proud of mine and include them as family. I have no burdens caring for so many. We do it with love and out of love.
